The Hype Over Green Juice Powders

What are they and why are they so popular?

Growing up as kids our parents told us to “eat our vegetables so we can grow up strong”. Well, mine did at least. I remember thinking; how on earth is this thing good for me if it tastes so yucky. It wasn’t until I got into my 20’s that I realized that my mom was right. Vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet. She taught me that most of the vitamins and minerals we need we can get through the food we eat. If we eat right.

Why Vegetable Intake is Important

Veggies have super powers and do wonders for our bodies overall health and function. They are nutrient dense and filled with a lot of different vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to be healthy. The vegetable food group ranges from leafy greens such as; broccoli, kale, and spinach to bell peppers and potatoes. According to WebMD, consuming vegetables can; improve digestive health, lower blood pressure, lower the risk of heart disease, and help with weight management. With almost half of the population struggling with heart disease it baffles me as to why veggies aren’t a more popular food choice. Is it due to dietary negligence or the lack of convenience they are in a world filled with fast food options?

Enter Green Juice powder

This green powder idea started taking the health and wellness world by storm around 2019. I vividly remember seeing so many ads for Bloom greens supplements and wondering what the heck it was. Thus entered my research on it. There are a bunch of companies that sell green juice powders all with similar claims. The biggest are, improved digestion, energy boost, helps with bloating, and helps with immunity. They’re designed to be mixed in with water or added to a smoothie. Where the claims are the same the ingredients do differ depending on the brand.

Green Juices I’ve Tried….

(and my honest opinions of them)

  1. Bloom Greens

Out of all of the greens powders I’ve tried this is in my top three favorites. I like how fine the powder is, it makes it incredibly easy to blend into water. They have a wide range of flavors which makes it easy to find one you’ll love, (they all taste like juice). This powder contains a digestive blend, pre and probiotic blend, a green superfood blend, as well as a fruits and veggies blend, and an adaptogen blend.

Price point: 39.99 for 30 servings.

Flavors: Mango, Strawberry Qiwi, Coconut, berry, and more.

Pros: Taste like juice, easy to mix into water.

Cons: Does not have a mushroom blend, only 2 grams of fiber per serving.

  1. Country Farms Super Greens Mix

This one is another one of my favorites. This greens powder does have a more “earthy” taste compared to the Bloom Greens. I normally get the chocolate flavor, which is incredibly good in chocolate protein shakes. The ingredient list here is a little more impressive than the Bloom greens. It contains a greens blend, fruits and vegetable blend, pre and probiotic blend, as well as a fiber and mushroom blend. This greens powder has five more grams of fiber per serving compared to Bloom greens. In addition, I would like to note that this powder does contain good for you mushrooms like lion’s mane and chaga.

Price point: (Currently on sale on Amazon for 12.99) for 20 servings.

Flavors: Natural, berry, and chocolate.

Pros: Mushroom blend, 7 grams of fiber per serving, price point.

Cons: Tastes more earthy compared to its competitors.

  1. Zena Super Greens

Unfortunately, this is not on my favorites list. While it does have an ingredient list that is comparable to the Country Farms super greens. I do not enjoy the texture of this one. The powder is not as fine as the ones mentioned above making it feel grainy when mixed with water. It settles at the bottom of my shaker bottle and always leaves a grainy residue. However, what makes this one unique is that it contains a hydration blend with coconut water. While the texture makes it weird to drink, the flavor is decent. It still has a juice- like taste.

Price Point: (Currently on sale for 24.99) for 30 servings

Flavors: Berry

Pros: Hydration blend, mushroom blend.

Cons: 3 grams of fiber per serving, texture of green juice, only one flavor.

  1. Clean Simple Eats

Clean simple eats is a very popular Utah- founded brand. This green powder brand has a range of yummy juice- like flavors. The powder mixes well with water leaving you with a refreshing beverage. The ingredient list is shorter than the others containing; a superfood blend and a prebiotic blend. Although the flavors are delicious (my favorite is the peach) the ingredient list lacks compared to the ones listed above.

Price Point: (Currently on sale for 23.99) for 30 servings.

Flavors: Original, peach, raspberry lemonade, tropical, and more

Pros: Flavors are good and they mix well with water,

Cons: 2 grams of fiber per serving, no mushroom blend, no fiber blend.

My Final Thoughts

While I think it is important to make sure you are eating a well balanced diet filled with fruits and veggies. I do not think that drinking green juice is a cheat for vegetable intake. For someone who already accomplishes eating the recommended amounts of fruits and veggies daily I think green juice powder is a good way to boost your health.

I personally love green juice and have been drinking it daily for over a year now. I have seen benefits in my own health as well as my husbands. Personal benefits I would like to note are, improved digestion, I bloat way less, and the energy boost. Incorporating this supplement has helped me fill the nutritional gaps in my diet. It is important to me that I eat a healthy and well balanced diet and for me, greens powder is the cherry on top.
